The first thing is start up cost and installation. More frequently than not, this factor is usually the same between the two companies that battle over the “who is the best?” title. DirecTV and Dish Network both usually offer a free installation and start up. Meaning that when you call to order service, chances are you would not have to pay anything up front. That is a great deal, but doesn’t really assist you decide who to go with if they are both free.

The next factor that is considered is the monthly cost of the service and the channels that are offered. In this area, again, the two companies seem really alike. They both offer more than 250 channels. When you start to dig deeper however, you would see where the differences start to appear. On the surface, it could be difficult and confusing to see facts.

For instance, at a glance the basic programming package from Dish Network seems cheaper than that of DirecTV. However, when you take a closer look, the package from DirecTV has a few more channels. It also has your local channels included in the package price, where as you have to pay extra to receive your local channels from Dish Network.

In the case of foreign language channels, both DirecTV and Dish Network have a really good selection as satellite TV is easily broadcast nationally. You could acquire channels in languages like Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Greek, Italian, Korean, Vietnamese and even Polish. There are other languages as well, for both providers. Each company does offer different options in just about all of these languages, so determining the best would honestly be a personal preference. You could check out which channels are offered in which languages by visiting each of their websites

Bothe companies are paying close attention to high definition programming. Both carriers have an impressive lineup of HD channels. Dish Network has the capacity of 70 national HD channels while the Direct TV HD package has the bandwidth for 150. Both providers are beating out cable for the amount of channel options to acquire the most out of your HDTV.

With all of the similarities in the companies, you may still be on the fence. However, if you are an avid sports fan, and you are interested in the premium sports packages, then this might just be the deal breaker. Dish offers basic packages for football, baseball, basketball, soccer and hockey. DirecTV on the other hand far surpasses that. Sure, they offer those sports. But only on DirecTV could you acquire their NFL Supercast. If you have Supercast, then you have the ability to watch every NFL Sunday Ticket game live on your PC from anywhere. This means that you could still catch that game, no matter where you are as long as you have your PC. You also acquire scores, stats and highlights throughout the games.

If that alone isn’t enough for you to decide to go with DirecTV, they go beyond the basic sports packages. You could acquire rugby and cricket games, as well as Nascar HotPass. Direct TV - A Short History

Published by Jim under Direct TV

DirecTV is currently the United States leading digital satellite service provider, delivering more than 225 channels of digital entertainment and informational programming to approximately 13 million homes and businesses in the United States with its headquarters in El Segundo, California, launched in the summer of 1994, DTV has now 7 satellites in service; providing 500 satellite channels to 13 million customers.

Digital compression made it possible for the first time for several digital television channels to be squeezed onto a single satellite transponder. Previous to this, only one channel could be carried per each transponder, which meant a maximum channel barrier of 24-32 channels per satellite. Clearly this was not a feasible option for a service that was to compete head on with long established cable vision companies.

In December, 1993, a long realized dream came to realization with the successful launch of the United States first DBS class commercial satellite. This satellite, would be known as DBS-1 was located at DirecTV’s allocated orbital slot of 101 degrees W.L. This satellite was a high powered commercial satellite carrying a payload of 16 circularly polarized DBS Ku band transponders, each broadcasting at 120 watts per transponder. The summer of 1994 brought the introduction of the digital DirecTV system, the first of its kind, an all digital, direct to home satellite service, delivering crystal clear digital channels on a small 18″ satellite dish and set top receiver. The Direct system was actually comprised of 2 distinct satellite services, DirecTV, which delivered most of the cable vision favorite channels and network feeds, and also USSB (United States Satellite Broadcasting Co.), which delivered premium services like premium movie channels (HBO, Showtime) as well as pay per view sporting events, like boxing and wrestling

The DirecTV/USSB partnership came in 1991, as DirecTV’s parent company, Hughes Electronics was attempting to raise financing for the DirecTV venture. USSB, which had previously been part of a failed DBS project in the 1980’s, saw an opportunity to finally capitalize on their dream of launching a successful DBS service to the American marketplace. USSB agreed to purchase 5 transponders aboard the future DBS-1 satellite, which they would use to broadcast their premium movie and pay per view offerings.

The new DirecTV system quickly became one of the hottest selling consumer electronics products of the year in 1994. At the time, the complete 8 bit RCA DSS system was selling for $699, not including installation. RCA also released an advanced DSS system, offering more features, universal remote control and re-in forced satellite dish for $899. The fall of 1994, brought another significant milestone as the second DirecTV satellite, DBS-2 launched and began operations in September of 1994. This offered DirecTV a further 16 high powered transponders, which allowed them to expand their programming offerings to nearly 150 channels. In comparison to cable vision systems of the day, which offered an average of 30 analog channels, this brought serious heat to the broadcasting industry.

The core DirecTV operations center is located in Castle Rock, Colorado and consists of a 55 00 square foot facility and broadcasting center. A second center was constructed later and is located in Los Angeles, California. together, they receive, process, and re-broadcast over 200 digital channels to their current 8 satellites, orbiting 22 300 miles above the Earth is some core orbital slots, including 101, 110 and 119 degrees.

DIRECTV is continuing to redefine the world of television entertainment. Advances in technology are enabling viewers to have greater control over their viewing and experience new services on their television, like digital video recording (DVR), high-definition TV, expanded multicultural programming, interactive programming and more.

Wider programming options, better picture and audio quality, cheaper monthly cost… these are the main advantages of satellite TV service that cable doesn’t offer.

However, though satellite TV seems to be a great deal in many aspects, there are still some negative issues that we may experience if we subscribe with dish TV services.

For instant, for the cheap subscription cost - consumers are all familiar with the deals offered by Dish Network or Direct TV, which offer us with hundred of channels with subscription fee of $20 to $30 per month. Dish Network and DirecTV offers are lack of bundle service when compare with the cables. Unlike cable TV which has additional service like cable broadband and cable radio. This bundle service is widely popular because of its overall value. On the other hand, satellite TV does no have much to be added on. hence, the satellite TV system is solely for your TV entertainment purposes.
